Can hypnosis help people with diabetes?

Sleep disorders have been linked to exacerbating or even precipitating diabetes as well as depression. Poor sleep robs people of their health in general. But, for diabetics it can cause a worsening of their condition. A hypnotist can assist a person with diabetes by helping them to positively alter their behavior.

A study explained how people who do not get enough sleep on a regular basis tend to become less sensitive to insulin over time. The study found that healthy adults who averaged 5.2 hours of sleep a night secreted 50% more insulin than their more rested counterparts, who averaged 8 hours of sleep a night. As a result, "short sleepers" were 40% less sensitive to insulin.

Sleep apnea sufferers susceptible to diabetes

I am fascinated by all the research being done on sleep lately. More and more, the experts are finding that sleep is critical to basic physical and psychological functioning to a degree that was previously not recognized. A lack of sleep or a lack of good quality sleep has increasingly become associated with poor health.

Sleep apnea, a sleep disorder associated with irregular breathing during sleep, has long been known as a culprit. When sleep apnea is treated successfully, sufferers enjoy a huge improvement in their overall health and quality of life.

Interestingly, researchers from Baltimore and Hagerstown now say they suspect a link between sleep apnea and diabetes. In the course of conducting a recent sleep study, they found that people with sleep apnea are more susceptible to developing diabetes or prediabetes. They speculate that this is because the body uses sleep time to regulate body functions such as hormone secretion and metabolism control. Interrupt sleep and you interrupt these functions, possibly screwing up your whole system.
