Meet the Bloggers: Chris Sparling

We thought it might be nice if you knew more about the phenomenally talented bloggers who blog quality health-related content here at the Life Sciences blogs.

All of our bloggers are passionate about the health topics they write about related to cancer, diabetes and cardio heart health;
compassionate in intent; and dedicated to bringing news, information, resources and a personal perspective meant to educate, enlighten and inspire in prevention, health management and survivorship.

Without further ado, we would like to introduce you to Chris Sparling, who blogs the Diabetes, Cardio and Cancer Blog.

When did you become a Life Sciences blogger? August 2006

How did you become interested in writing about health?

In support of my girlfriend, Kerri Morrone, who is a Type 1 diabetic and the author of Six Until Me. I have also spent a great deal of time as a personal trainer, working with people of all ages and fitness levels, and I wish to make my knowledge on exercise and nutrition available to anyone who cares to listen.

When it comes to health, what is your best advice to maintaining good health?

Train as hard as your body will allow, eat five to six small meals per day, and avoid refined sugars.

Name three favorite quotes:

"Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world." -- Archimedes

"I have not failed. I have just found 1,000 ways that did not work." -- Thomas Edison

"What if everything is an illusion and nothing exists? In that case, I definitely overpaid for my carpet." -- Woody Allen

Name three health-related books you would recommend:

Body for Life by Bill Phillips
Body for Life for Women by Pam Peeke
The Optimum Nutrition Bible by Patrick Holford

Who inspires you?

My girlfriend, my parents, and about three thousand other people.

What inspires you?

The fear of failing at the things at which I wish to succeed. Oh yeah, and the movie Hoosiers, too.

When you are not writing for the Life Science blogs, what do you do?

I am a screenwriter and screenwriting teacher, as well as an independent filmmaker. My most recent feature length release, An Uzi at the Alamo, was just made availabe on NetFlix. I am also the co-editor of Exist Magazine, and regularly contribute to a number of print and online publications.
