There is a great deal of controversy over stem cell research and passage of the stem cell bill, particularly as it pertains to the use of embryos. Supporters of the stem cell bill say embryonic research carries great promise in the search for cures for diseases that afflict millions of Americans, including diabetes, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.Opponents say taxpayers should not be forced to foot the bill for research that destroys the days-old fertilized embryos from which the stem cells are extracted. Instead, many of them support federally funded research on other kinds of stem cells, such as those derived from umbilical cord blood and adults.

1. I think it's a sad sad joke that because of the delerious ramblings and power of a fundamentalist president that embryonic stem cell research is being held back with lack of a gov't sponser using old and polluted lines. The pro-life fundamentalist position that each stem cell is equivalent to an aborted fetus is even more outlandish than the belief that life begins at conception. If that were true I shouldn't have gotten a minor in possesion of alcohol 4 months before my 21st birthday... if life began at conception than I had already been 21 for 5 months.
Anyway.. I will sit back and watch as other countries advance in science and become providers of cures to chronic illnesses and the United States begins to lose it's medical technology edge; funding and great minds abandoning The Great Jesus Land of N. America.
Well they do say that power moves west... as the United States... we sure do seem like we're beginning to slip back into some dark age.
Short version: I Totally support all forms of stem cell research and think that it's completely uneducated to oppose the creation of a tool that could be used to save lives.
