High Blood Pressure and Diabetes

blood pressure cuffResearchers are telling us that blood pressure levels consistently above the recommended limit of 130/80 can spell trouble when you have diabetes. Although scientists have known this for some time, the importance of controlling blood pressure in addition to blood glucose has now taken center stage.

The risk for developing diabetes complications is increased in those with uncontrolled blood pressure. This is true even if blood glucose levels are kept at goal. This news probably affects you since 73 percent of people with type 2 diabetes have blood pressure levels above optimal or are taking a medication to lower their blood pressure.
