A new drug has
been approved by the FDA for the treatment of diabetic
neuropathy. The drug is being produced by
Pfizer, and will be called Lyrica. (Pfizer is the company that makes Lipitor and
Viagra.) This amounts to nothing less than a breakthrough as it is the first such drug ever approved by the FDA to
treat the painful disease.
Almost half of the 18 million Americans with diabetes will develop some form of diabetic neuropathy over the course of their disease and about one in six will experience painful diabetic neuropathy.
